Owned by business tycoon Dr Vijay Mallya, the Royal Challengers Bangalore has been one of the strongest teams in the IPL. The side has a great batting line-up consisting of hard hitters like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli. The experience of Zaheer Khan in the bowling has been very crucial for the team. Daniel Vettori’s presence helps the side as far as spin bowling is concerned.
In its red and golden yellow team colours, Bangalore had its moments of glory when they ended up as the finalists in the second edition, losing the title to eventual winners Deccan Chargers. After a decent performance in the third season, the team raised to prominence in the fourth, thanks to the big West Indian, Chris Gayle; who quickly turned the tides for his team despite a late entry into the competition. He was not only the Orange cap holder, but was also adjudged “Player of the Tournament” for his all-round performance. The team lost to Chennai Super Kings in the 2011 final, but qualified to play in the third edition of the Champions League T20, only to end up losing to Mumbai Indians in the finale.
